Concept & Features

The clients, Marion and Will Baker, conveyed a profound appreciation for travel, outdoor living, and the creative arts. The design response reflects these values through a considered palette of warm neutrals and tactile materials that evoke a sense of comfort, authenticity, and understated sophistication. Natural finishes and fluid spatial transitions between interior and exterior zones reinforce a strong connection to the surrounding landscape. The residence as a whole embodies refined elegance and spatial generosity, guided by a seamless dialogue between architecture and nature — drawing inspiration from the adjacent wetlands, parklands, and the tranquillity of the Parramatta River.

The lower level is characterised by an open-plan arrangement, anchored by a sculptural, custom-designed staircase that serves as both a functional core and an architectural statement. Crafted from steel, timber, and glass balustrades, the staircase articulates a balance between solidity and transparency, enhancing the sense of openness and visual continuity throughout the interior.

At the heart of the residence, the kitchen is conceived as a space that harmonises indoor and outdoor living. A refined composition of warm timber tones, muted greens, and natural stone establishes a serene and grounded atmosphere. Elegance is conveyed through the tactile depth of the textured stone splashback and island bench, while bespoke joinery — integrated with premium Blum and Häfele fittings — exemplifies precision craftsmanship and enduring quality. Together, these elements elevate the design experience, uniting functionality with architectural integrity.
